Fancy taking a nostalgic trip through the pop music of yesteryear? Then install Bing's Top 100s by Year app on your iPhone.
Top 100s by Year lets you listen to the top 100 songs of every year, going right back to 1947. It's amazingly easy to pick up and start using Top 100s by Year. You just select the year you want from the scroll wheel and one of the hits from that year will begin playing at random. You're able to shuffle the tracks but not to select an individual track or cycle through the top 100 in order.
While a track is playing, Top 100s by Year gives you options for buying the song from iTunes, and for searching Bing for the artist or lyrics. Clicking the menu icon at the top of the screen will let view the top 100 from the year you've selected. Here, there are links to YouTube videos of the songs.
Listening to the chart hits of the past with Top 100s by Year is a great experience, and it somehow brings forgotten memories flooding back to you through the power of music. A couple of things spoiled this experience a bit for me though. The first was the ads for Bing that pop up every three songs (though this is just about forgivable if it keeps the app free). The second was that some of the songs in Top 100s by Year aren't the original single version, and are sometimes remixes or live versions.
Overall, Top 100s by Year is a great way to roll back the years and relive the music you've grown up with.
